Fueled by the recent light-hearted jokes made by Jimmy Kimmel, Core-A Gaming has created a video in which they argue that competitive fighting gaming has a lot more to offer than many would think. Gerald from Core-A Gaming analyzes the generational gap between gamers and non-gamers, and makes a case for watching fighting games over watching actual fighting.
CHECK OUT THE VIDEO BELOW:
The video was considered to be an opinion...with hope to influence and convince. Not sure this video will convince people OUTSIDE of the FGC or other gamers that stream. I think this video is a good argumentative defensive stance, or a kind of validation and/or self comfort for watching streams for hours on end.
In the end he does make a valid point...regardless if I watch a stream for 2 hours or watch a PPV UFC match for 2 hours....it's still unproductive, and it's done because honestly WE FEEL LIKE IT! It's our preference, our choice and who gives a fuck who thinks otherwise. People shouldn't be living their lives based on what others think of them..and If anything, this video can be taken as a good defence to that theme.
HOWEVER, to compare real life physical competitive sports to video games?!? That's a bit of a stretch.
That's like me saying: - Playing Sim City can prepare me to run for mayor of my home town. - I can easily qualify and Join the army because I'm at 5th prestige in COD BLACK OPS II - I can beat Daniel Negreanu or Phil Hellmuth in a heads up Poker Tournament because I'm an online master on XBox Full House Poker. - I know how to drive an actual Lamborghini because I'm at pro level in Forza 4
Sounds pretty stupid now doesn't it? Well that's what non FGC and non stream watchers looking at this video will feel and think this dude is referring to. Trust me, my girlfriend pretty much laughed and dismissed this video..BUT was in awe when she saw that part in the video where the stadium was filled just to watch people play a tournament. It's just not something the average person is ready to take in yet.
I say 10 more years and Video Gaming will not even be thought as a geek or nerdy thing anymore...honestly I don't think it is now, but you gotta remember that this older generation (40+) was around when they played Mrs Pac Man, Pong, Q bert, Space Invaders etc...they're just not going to take gaming serious like the later generations. And Honestly, unless they can personally make the potential money in this industry that we know can be made...they never will take gaming seriously.
